Natural Therapies

Lavender grown for medicinal properties
Lavender has many therapeutic uses.

Natural Therapy can be viewed as Complementary or alternative medicine in the West. Natural Therapies have been around since the dawn of time; and in resource-poor conditions provide an effective method of providing health care.

It has a tremendous impact on this rural area with scant access to medical care. We have sponsored and supported a training programme for Community Health Workers and Traditional Birth Attendants in how to administer and apply plant extracts in this way.
Our intentions are to carry on supporting the ongoing teaching programme on Aromatherapy for them, and sponsor the supply of the oils free of charge for them to treat their patients once they are deemed  competent in the usage.

With the land at Shamulumba, we plan to sponsor locals to plant chinchoma, (for Quinine to treat malaria),and moringa in addition to plants such as lavender, thyme, tea tree, geranium, aloe vera and eucalyptus and lemon trees that can be produced into therapeutic compounds and oils. Sunflowers and Soya beans can also be grown to produce carrier oils.

Aromatherapy treatments treated by locals and local staff since 2004 include:

  • Asthma
  • Child Birth
  • Stomach Ache
  • Lowered Libido
  • Sciatica
  • Backache
  • Sore throats
  • Coughs

  • Dressings
  • Grief
  • Ringworm
  • Headaches
  • Sinusitis
  • Labour Pain
  • Infections
  • Toothache
  • Menopause
  • Sore Eyes (with diluted rose water)
  • Arthritis
  • Cuts
  • Coughs
  • Itchy skin
  • Sports injuries
  • Constipation
  • Lowered Immune System
  • Dandruff
  • Chest infections
  • Period Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Stroke

LTF intends to use part of the land donated to us to support the growing of plants that will supply essential oils.
We aim to have a distillery and bottling plant built which will bring employment to the area.
We will continue to sponsor and support villagers with the provision of Natural Therapy treatments and also with the education of the Traditional Birth Attendants and Community Health Workers regarding the safe use of
Natural Therapies.
